Röthenbach

With its 250 inhabitants, Röthenbach is the smallest district of the municipality of Pretzschendorf. The village stretches across two kilometres through a narrow valley surrounded by fields and forests.
The place is mainly shaped by farms from former times, because agriculture was basis for living of the majority of people, apart from handicrafts and mining. Like the whole Erzgebirge, Röthenbach was mined. In seven mines there was mined until 1887 among other things silver ore and pyrite (yellow mica) which can be found even today on some places.
Röthenbach is a perfect starting point for walking-tours through the idyllic valley of the river “Wilde Weißeritz” and to the dam of Klingenberg. You can also hike around or on the Röthenbach Hill which has a height above sea level of 664 metres.
